THE CELESTINE PROPHECY
This best selling novel was penned by James Redfield as he created a unique framework to hang a series of insights which most of the general public would otherwise find pretty dry.
This very well known book had been one of the major influences in my life since I first read it back in 1995. A great many important events were catalysed A great many important events for me were catalysed by this book. Through it, I met many new and good friends, and had some real life changing amazing experiences. That is to say, it was the book itself, rather then the concepts within that was the catalyst.
It's worth pointing out that all the concepts in these novels are not new. They have been around for a very long time. However, this is the first time I've seen it put in such a form. Many have said that the insights contained within are too simplistic, and in a way, I'd agree with them. However, they do make a good starting point for a person beginning on his spiritual journey.
The important thing is to take the insights and see if they are relevant to your life. For many, they are. For others, they find that once they are past the veneer, there is still hard work to be done and they become discouraged. If there's a quick way to enlightenment, I've not found it as yet. :-)
And while James has created a unique series of novels, the true power in his books isn’t so much the story, or even the insights, but the amazing synchronicities that it constantly generates.
Many have criticized the writing and certainly most of the ideas aren’t new, but I have to say, without that book, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
Nearly every major event in my life since 1995 has been due to the fact that someone has read that book and we’ve made the connection through it.

The Celestine Prophecy novels
What are they?
It's an adventure story, but it's also a story of awakening as the main character goes through a series of insights which leads to his own self discovery, but ultimately a world vision of hope. So far there are three books covering eleven insights. The book states that each person will eventually pass through each insight and come to their own self awareness. Thought this novel is fictitious, it has touch the core of a great many people around the world as they, too, experience their own insights.
The book has been criticized as being badly written, as being too simplistic and too unrealistic. And indeed, for the more discerning reader, it certainly is that.
The story is fictional. Many people get rather taken aback when they discover this. Also the concepts, or insights contained in the books are not new, nor are there any earth shattering revelations. What it is, however, is a good way to read what would be for many people, terribly boring and dry knowledge.
Many people get enthused after reading the book, but that soon wears off. This is because they find that they can't really apply the insights in their daily lives. This is not to say that they can't be applied (well, most of them, anyway) but there is information missing that makes it hard.

What are the insights?
1. A critical mass. (The Celestine Prophecy)
It is said that when enough people become aware of something, it become predominant in society. This insight is also about becoming aware of the coincidences in our lives. These coincidences lead us to growth and our spiritual awakening. People and events seem to come into our lives at the just the right time.
2. The Longer Now
The understanding of how, by looking at history, how we are becoming aware of the real purpose of life on this planet.
3. A matter of Energy.
The interaction of energy between people and how we can sense it and, sometimes see it.
4. The struggle for power.
How we attempt to try and steal another's energy to supplement our own in order to increase our feeling of well being. This is said to be the basis for wars and fights for supremacy. We try to steal on a personal level with control dramas, which are ways of manipulating others to give you their energy.
5. The message of the mystics.
This is about how we can connect to a higher, divine source for our energy instead of needing to try and steal it from others.
6. Clearing the past.
By examining our child hood and past, we can see where and how our control dramas started. Once we are aware of this, we can start to free ourselves and discover our paths and spiritual mission.
7.Engaging the flow
Once we are aware of our personal mission, we can start to experience more coincidences, intuitions, dreams, daydreams which help us along the way.
8. The Interpersonal Ethic.
We can uplift every person who comes into our lives by giving them energy. By doing this, we can increase the coincidences in our lives. This also can be very effective in groups where a natural flow of conversation will occur without battling for control. It is also important not to become codependent, or addicted to someone as you cut yourself off from your divine source and connect to theirs instead.
9. The emerging culture
As we become more spiritual, our vibrations become higher and higher until our body can become spiritualized. This also speaks of how science and spirituality will exist hand in hand.
10. Holding the vision. (The Tenth Insight – Holding the Vision.)
We all come to Earth to accomplish certain missions. We experience them in what are called birth visions before we are born and then try to awaken and remember it after birth. Everyone is said to be part of a mission to help spiritualize the Earth and share a common world vision. Once we remember our birth vision, the challenge then is to hold it with prayer and the intention of enacting it.
11. Extending our prayer fields. (The Secret of Shambhala)
This covers the method of how to extend what is called your prayer field. This field is what can be used to influence and bring into actuality things and events. Our expectations and our intentions have a great impact on our lives and the lives of others.
I understand that the 12th insight is currently being worked on.
There is also a movie based on the book that had a limited release.
I once asked the James Redfield's manager, John Austin, who was often seen in the chat room (as jwa) what the 12th insight might be about. He gave me a vague answer that it probably would be a combination of all the other 11 ones.
Sadly, John passed away in November 2004 and is missed by those who loved him. I was always grateful for providing us with a place to meet others on the path of synchronicity.
John was succeeded by his friend, Kelly Leavitt, who, in my opinion, is an amazing and enlightened lady. I doubt a better successor could have been chosen for the site.
